EP Review: Approachable Members of Your Local Community ‘Love Thy Neighbour’

Let’s be honest, its a scary time out there at the moment, which means we need to stick together now more than ever. This is why Australian quartet Approachable Members of Your Local Community (AMOYLC for short) and their debut EP ‘Love Thy Neighbour’ seems extremely poignant right now.

‘Love Thy Neighbour’ is all about the celebration of community. The EP came from the band’s reflections about growing up, seeing their neighbourhoods change and gentrify and the internet become a more crazy and even a frightening place. The band elaborate, “It doesn’t take a genius to point out that there is some serious social division and hardship across the world right now. The Community is facing a whole series of challenges that aren’t easy, and aren’t disappearing anytime soon. ‘Love Thy Neighbour’ is a call for positivity and hope, which Small Change talks directly to. In traditional Approachable style, we’ve consulted our local Rabbi and summoned our biblical roots in naming this release Love Thy Neighbour. It’s about empathy – to people, to places and the environment.”

Obviously times have moved on a bit since the Australian bushfires, but ‘Love Thy Neighbour’ still feels extremely relatable given today’s climate. Now is the time to stick together, look after your vulnerable neighbours, and, for the love of god, STAY INSIDE. You will be saving lives.

Taken from the EP is the band’s latest single ‘Small Change’, which comes with an equally entertaining video to boot. The single is full of fun, something we all need right now, combining elements of indie, electro, funk and disco throughout.

So what are you waiting for? Whack this bad boy up to full volume and have a party in your pants at home! Go on, you know you want to…
