At The Drive-In to reunite in 2016

Texas’ post-punk titans to return next year.

Noise-rock meddlers At The Drive-In will reunite next year, it has been confirmed. The band are scheduled to play the Rock on the Range Music Festival in May 2016, which will mark their first show together in four years. Originally together from 1993-2001, the band then splintered and formed groups The Mars Volta snd Sparta respectively.

The El Paso band’s status has been unclear since their initial comeback tour in 2012, but now it seems that ATDI fans finally have an answer. During their 2012 tour — where the band played headline slots at the Reading & Leeds Festivals — co-founder and guitarist Omar Rodríguez-López expressed his apprehension at performing with band’s music again (via Consequence Of Sound):

“When playing those songs, I thought, ‘Here’s a person at the time that I don’t relate to anymore.’ He didn’t care about his life and was doing drugs and was really disconnected from the world and a whole lot of other personal stuff that I won’t get into. If I give myself to that, I can feel the psychological effects of that personality in the same way that an actor can say it wasn’t healthy to live in that role so long or bring that role home every night”.

However, not all the band members seems to be in the know over the reunion. Speaking to the El Paso Times, guitarist Jim Ward was asked if he would be playing with the band at Rock On The Range next year, but he was unable to confirm whether he would be joining the group, and asked the reporter to “let me know what you hear”. Awkward.
