Cavani completes £55.4m PSG switch

In the last few moments, Paris Saint Germain have joined Monaco in making a £50m+ move for a prolific striker having completed a deal for Edinson Cavani.

The Ligue 1 Champions paid Napoli £55.4m for the 26-year-old who signed a five-year deal with Laurent Blanc’s side.

The move becomes the Qatari-owned club’s latest blockbuster deal as the owners have already spent over £200m signing new players in the last two years.

The Cavani move sees PSG get one over on Monaco in the sense that they now hold the record transfer deal for Ligue 1 and they’ll be hoping in turn that the Uruguayan will help them get one over in another sense as Monaco look to be PSG’s biggest obstacle in their bid to retain the league title next season.

Rumours are surely now going to start circulating regarding Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s future as Napoli president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, claims Cavani and Ibrahimovic won’t be lining up alongside each other next season. “He (Ibrahimovic) won’t play with Cavani,” said De Laurentiis. “He’s already been promised to other horizons.”
