Blood Orange shares new track ‘Sandra’s Smile’

Song is released as an ode to the late Sandra Bland.

Dev Hynes, AKA Blood Orange, has unveiled ‘Sandra’s Smile,’ his first official track release since releasing the album Cupid Deluxe in 2013. Referencing the death of Sandra Bland, an African-American woman who committed suicide while under police custody. The death of Bland sparked controversy in the States, and further added to the growing racial and social tensions in the US. ‘Sandra’s Smile’ is a sombre and heartfelt track, moulded by Hynes’ political beliefs and maturing sound.

Hynes announced the new track via his twitter account:

Hynes is no novice at political songwriting, having discussed the atrocities witnessed and suffered in the Charleston massacre in June on the song ‘Do You See My Skin Through the Flames?’ You can listen to the delicately sombre ‘Sandra’s Smile’ below.
