5 Apps to kill commute time

Whether it’s the daily slog to and from work or the train journey with your essential worldly possessions to and from University, we all know the time drags. Even with smartphones and tablets it can still seem a struggle to stay occupied, with so many apps available it can be hard to find the right one for you.

Fortunately amongst all those apps some real gems exist.  So we have collected five of them that will while the hours away and make it easy to dip in and out of, as you never know what might come up on public transport! So here are the five apps we think are great for your commute.

  • Fast like a Fox

This side-scroll game offers many different levels that will keep you entertained in the long and short term. It has many checkpoints, so should you need to stop what you are doing you won’t face the irritation of repeating yourself.  The big pull to this game is the unique control system really sets it apart. To make your fox run you don’t just hold the screen or even tap at it, instead you drum your fingers on the back of your phone or tablet, the faster you tap your fingers the faster you go. Available on Google Play

  • Kindle app

The classic tube pastime of reading a book is still a popular one but more and more paperbacks are being replaced by infinite digital libraries all contained in your phone/tablet. With an array of free books and top titles at great prices there is a lot on offer here and being that you no longer have to carry a physical copy it has exceptional commuter value. • Landmark Bingo

This casino styled bingo app offers an immersive experience capturing the lights and sounds of the real thing. Landmark bingo offers a play anywhere opportunity to win real cash prizes and is just the thing for a morning thrill or pick-me-up any time of day. We liked the range of game types available and how simple it is to get going even if you haven’t played before. With an array of regularly updating promotions there’s always good incentive to tap this app. Pick up and playability is great which is essential for the hustle and bustle of life on the move, though this also works great for relaxing and winding down on the sofa. • Defend Your Life

A tower defence game set inside the human body. Like all tower defence you have to defeat waves of various enemies of increasing strength and number. We liked this one for the unique twist of being a fight against invading pathogens and you taking the role of the hero antibodies. With many levels, difficulties and excellent animations you can spend a lot of time perfecting the enemy’s annihilation.  We admit it can be tricky to put this one down but that’s also why we recommend it! Available on the Appstore and Google Play

  • Zombie Highway

Drive and shoot the zombie hoard as they throw themselves at your car. As you dodge wrecks on the highway and splatter the undead over the road we noticed a strange mindlessness to this game. You zone in on the slaughter, frantically tapping to mow down the flesh hungry and when you arrive at your destination and look up for the first time you aren’t sure if you were shouting “DIE ZOMBIE DIE” in your head or out load.
