The sun is out and it feels like we might actually get a summer this year, so while the sun is shining here are 10 artists to blast in the sun and define the start of the summer.
We all have music that sounds so much better in the sun, and starting the countdown at 10 we have:
10. Passenger
Recently on tour with Ed Sheeran, singer/songwriter Passenger’s beautiful voice is enough to relax anyone, then you add his lyrics and you have a really special talent. New single ‘Let Her Go’ is proving a massive hit at the moment too.
9. Benga
Dubstep DJ Benga is known for his really dirty and heavy dubstep and for his role in Magnetic Man alongside Artwork and Skream, with new album ‘Chapter II” due out this summer, its bound to be the album that is blasted at house parties and beach raves right throughout the summer. Lets face it, everyone becomes a dubstep lover and does them ‘dubstep dances’ when intoxicated..
8. Foals
Foals are that band who will fill a sweaty tent at a festival and throw the biggest and craziest indie rave possible but are also that band who write stunning music like ‘Spanish Sahara’ and more recently on their new album, ‘Milk And Black Spiders’. A band full of anthems that bring indie guitar riffs and a constant soundtrack to the summer.
7. Rudimental
Already full of anthems after their breakthrough track ‘Feel The Love’ last year, Rudimental have excelled into mainstream success and dominate the charts with every song they release. Latest release ‘Waiting All Night’ has a real summer feel to it and is a song that is needed on your ipods/itunes ahead of the summer as it dominates every music and radio channel for the next few months. Another unmissable band at the festivals this summer.
6. Editors
Back on the scene after a 4 year absence and seemingly heading back towards their roots with new track ‘A Ton Of Love’ after a change of musical direction with the more electro 2009 album ‘In This Light And On This Evening’, Editors are never far away from summer playlists with their anthems ‘Munich’ and ‘Papillon’. With their new album out on July 1st and festival slots booked, everyone is expecting some massive new anthems, another one for the sun wouldn’t go a miss..
5. Theme Park
Indie rockers Theme Park are full of songs that make you want to dance in the sun with a beer in your hand, a definite festival band with their indie anthems ‘Milk’ and Ibiza Rocks favourite ‘Two Hours’. With an album expected this year, its not just the summer that looks bright for Theme Park.
4. Fenech Soler
Back with a bang in 2013 by releasing two electro indie classics with ‘All I Know’ and ‘Maiyu’, their new album is one of the most hyped up albums of 2013 already ahead of its release. With new songs to go with their classics ‘Demons’ and ‘Stop And Stare’ they are set for a slot high up the bill at this summers Reading and Leeds festivals dance tent. With their electro indie sound and feel good vibe, Fenech Soler are a must have band on your Ipod’s this summer!
3. Sub Focus
It seems like Sub Focus has been around for years, one of the hardest working DJ’s on the circuit who just seems to improve with every track he makes and collaborates with great artists. From his self titled debut album, his drum and bass anthems ‘Rock It’ and ‘Splash’ still feature in club playlists and DJ sets up and down the country. Along with new single ‘Endorphins’ featuring Alex Clare, Sub Focus will bring his smashing sound to headline sets across most of the UK festivals this summer. Be prepared to have the rave of your life.
2. Disclosure
Dance duo Disclosure are already tipped to be the band/artist of the year, nevermind the summer, but their summer fuelled anthems such as ‘White Noise’ and ‘Latch’ already dominate every club in the country along with new single ‘You & Me’. From festival sets that the duo are playing to every beach rave, holiday playlist and house party that will occur this summer, Disclosure are set to be top of everyone’s list. The duo are already seemingly a favourite of everyone with a taste in music and its hard to find a reason for them not to be, they can certainly write an anthem!
1. The 1975
The 1975 have more hype about them than any band in recent memory. Loveable, addictive and relaxing songs like ‘The City’ to indie anthems like ‘Chocolate’ and guitar riffing ‘Sex’, the 1975 have a mix of different sounds that all link together perfectly. A band that also sound even better when the sun is shining, every song being a sing-a-long and they are almost guaranteed to be the band of the summer at the festivals.
The 1975 are the band everyone is talking about and its clear why, they are an unmissable band this summer.
