Young Fathers were tonight announced the winners of the 2014 Barclaycard Mercury Prize for Album of the Year with their offering ‘Dead’.
On receiving their award, the band said: “Thank you, thank you. We love you all”.
Young Fathers took the award for Best Album above other acclaimed nominees such as Royal Blood, Bombay Bicycle Club and FKA Twigs.
“Young Fathers have a unique take on urban British music, brimming with ideas – forceful, unexpected and moving.”

The full show be be broadcast in full on Channel 4 at 11.40pm this Friday, October 31st, and sees every nominee perform one song from their nominated album of the year.
