When asked if I would like to review the finale of the 9 year long hit TV show, despite kicking myself for missing the opportunity to say “Challenge accepted”, I was more than happy to. I’m going to try and do this without any spoilers so anyone reading this who hasn’t seen it or is catching up, hopefully I won’t ruin it for you.
After 208 episodes, the “legendary” show “How I Met Your Mother” ended it’s nine series run on Monday night. After 39 women, 6 relationships and countless heartbreaks, we finally learned How Ted met his kids Mother. Throughout the final season, the show hinted at who the mother is, finally revealing nearer the end. Still, the nine-year-long story that future Ted Mosby had been telling his kids ended with plenty of surprises.
The bittersweet finale aired in two parts was definitely one (or two) to watch. Throughout all the series, the characters have developed so much, and this takes their development to the extreme with some personalities changing in ways that are completely unexpected but surprisingly touching. The very end of the 2nd part of the finale was probably one of the most surprising bits for me. It was the way I wanted it to but never thought it would. Anyone who has seen it will understand. It sounds very vague but trying to get my points across without actually saying what happens is actually very difficult!
The fact the story has ended is one that is hard to take as it was one of my favourite TV shows. The only way I can think to end this article is to say thank you to a show that has challenge the conventions of a standard sitcom as it will be greatly missed!
