‘Stand-Alone’ Star Wars Films in The Pipeline

Disney CEO Bob Iger has revealed that there are plans in place for ‘Stand-alone’ Star Wars Films based around existing characters.

In an interview with American Television News Channel CNBC, Mr Iger divulged “We are working on a few stand-alone films… derived from great Star Wars characters.”

The films will accompany the already announced new trilogy of films and are expected to be released between 2015 and 2021. This is the third major announcement from Disney following it’s acquisition to the rights of the Star Wars films last year. The news follows the announcement that Star Trek director JJ Abrams will direct the seventh Star Wars film which is due for release in 2015.

It is rumoured that the ‘Stand-alone’ films will focus upon Yoda, Jabba the Hutt and Bobba Fett with Yoda expected to star in his own film first.
