Single Review: Verse Metrics – ‘The Nightmares Leave Us All Inoperational’

Having formed back in 2009, Glasgow’s Verse Metrics have previously charmed ears with 2016’s We’ll Be Listening and Remembering Until We’re Old and Unsteady and are now back with instantly infectious new single ‘The Nightmares Leave Us All Inoperational’.

Propelled by whirring hooks and steady metronomic beats, and with the deep, baritone vocal of Robert Dick at its forefront, ‘The Nightmares Leave Us All Inoperational’ oozes more than a shade of New York indie legends Interpol. Which is no bad thing in our books.

As jangly guitar-driven melodies and catchy refrains build, a rich lyrical depth and interweaving musical layers create a soaring, math-rock anthem, with a perfect dose of heady nostalgia thrown in for good measure.

If angular indie-rock that’ll stick in your ears on first listen is your cup of tea, then we highly recommend you take a sip of this latest offering from Verse Metrics.
