Single Review: Tokyo Taboo – ‘Papercut’

Following last year’s album 6th Street Psychosis, London duo Tokyo have now shared a riotous new video.

Filled with the band’s trademark ferocious energy, ‘Papercut’ races with high-octane riffs and front woman Dolly Daggerz’ intense raging vocals. Whirring with impassioned punk-pop vibes and a snarling force, it oozes shades of the power of Deap Vally or Paramore.

Not only a fantastically rip-roaring track, ‘Papercut’ also comes complete with its own tongue-in-cheek video depicting a group of apathetic 20-somethings participating in an experiment run by evil scientists. Of the video, director Gabriel Ralls explains: “… (it’s) about how we view and treat Millennials in the Instagram Age; but similarly how we fuck ourselves over as we often know better. Like the scientists in the video, the warnings signs are all around us.”

‘Papercut’ is out 2nd February via TT Records. And you can catch Tokyo Taboo live on tour with Japanese rockers Espirit D’Air this month:
