Single Review: Stalagmites – ‘Binary’

Manchester indie three-piece Stalagmites are here to deliver their contagious debut single ‘Binary’ – an upbeat track full of dark delayed guitars, driving bass-lines and pulsating indie beats, giving it a distinct early noughties vibe.

The trio’s minimalist style makes you wonder why other artists bother spending so much time trying to layer certain instruments; ‘Binary’ is filled with a raw passion and simple, yet rich, musicality, offering an insight into the energy of Stalagmites’ live shows.

Frontman Bradley Lynch explains that ‘Binary’ follows a story of “coming from a dark place and finding a way out, hoping it might be a simple switch but knowing it’s much more than that”, and it is certainly an uptempo slice of indie-rock that’ll help pull you out of any darkness you may find yourself in.

Having received airplay from the likes of Steve Lamacq (6Music) and John Kennedy (Radio X), ‘Binary’ will no doubt create a platform for Stalagmites to succeed with future releases.

‘Binary’ by Stalagmites is out now via Veta Records.
