Single Review: Soak – Blud

At just 17 years of age, Northern Irish singer/songwriter, Bridie Monds-Watson, better known as Soak, has already received massive support from BBC Radio 1, has made quite a few festival appearances, and has supported the likes of Tegan & Sara on tour.

Stepping up as the first signing to Chvrches’ brand new label, Goodbye Records, Soak is looking likely to pipe up as the next big thing.

Her latest single, ‘Blud’, taken from the forthcoming EP of the same name (set for release on March 17th) shadows a real maturity and progressive sound.

For the most part, the track soars on a gentle acoustic platform, held together with a prominent yet laid back bass line. As the backing vocals peep their way in throughout the chorus, Soak’s sound really comes together, cementing “you’re in my blud, I’m in your blu-u-ud” in your mind.

And OK, let’s be honest; the undeniable Derry accent strengthens the appeal.

A truly impressive single to kick off the new label. Persistence and patience certainly grew in Soak’s favour- big things on the way.
