Single Review: Skip Curtis ‘Wild Love’

Having already made a mark on the music industry as one third of haze-pop band XY&O, Skip Curtis is aiming to find his own voice through the release of euphoric debut single, Wild Love, out now via Electric MVM.

The music industry can be a fickle beast, especially when one has already attained success in the saturated genre of electro-pop. XY&O have excelled, gaining over 27 million streams for single ‘Low Tide’ alone; the trio connecting with listeners on all corners of the globe. So, it can be risky to change tact, bare your soul and go for it alone. Not only has Skip Curtis taken these steps, he’s done so with an impressive swagger usually reserved for seasoned veterans.

Debut single ‘Wild Love’ is a poignant yet uplifting tour de force that showcases an artist who has so much versatility to offer. Opening with delicately delivered vocals and simple acoustic guitar, ‘Wild Love’ lifts off as we career heart first into an indelible chorus, as Skip Curtis comes into his own. Soaring vocals are accented by an upbeat melody Curtis emotionally exclaiming, “…Wild Love comes rushing on me…”. ‘Wild Love’ is a perfectly put together piece of music artists such as Ryan Adams would be proud to call their own.

Skip’s ambition was to originally write songs for other people, which circumstantially led to him becoming one third of Welsh haze-pop band XY&O. Deciding to use his own unique vocal range to bring the songs to life, Skip has continued to develop his song writing skills both in a band and as a solo performer.

Having already performed at Glastonbury with XY&O, Skip is now building his own project with the release of ‘Wild Love’ and more singles planned for 2019 as well as a number of live dates due to be scheduled.

‘Wild Love’ is out now.
