Middlesbrough six-piece Provenance know exactly what makes an indie anthem stick. Their latest single ‘Save It For The Weekend‘ arrives with chiming guitars, driving rhythms and a rush of new wave-inspired synths, immediately setting its sights on the dance floor.
Produced by Jamie McIntyre of The Covasettes and Sugar House, the track strikes a neat balance between nostalgic indie and something distinctly current. Its soaring melodies and instantly memorable chorus give it plenty of commercial punch, while the candid lyrics explore the frustrations and immaturity of a relationship with an appealing lack of pretence.
There’s a sense of familiarity here , echoes of New Order, Catfish and The Bottlemen and the indie-rock revival that has shaped a generation, but Provenance inject enough personality to make the formula their own. It’s energetic, earnest and built for a crowd to shout back.
Following support from BBC Introducing, Radio X’s John Kennedy and Hunger Magazine, ‘Save It For The Weekend‘ feels like another step forward for a band rapidly finding their feet. If this is a taste of what Provenance have lined up for the rest of 2026, there’s plenty more noise to come.
