Having gained recognition through support slots with Ben Howard, Willy Mason and The Magic Numbers, Brighton’s Night House have unveiled their minimalist soundscapes to a wider audience through the release of brooding new single ‘Unfold’.
Written for a close friend, ‘Unfold’ reflects upon lost relationships and how the hurt experienced by both parties will only be temporary. ‘Unfold’ is a melancholic score packed full of emotion, led impressively by the delicate vocals of singer songwriter Nick Williams. Sparse beats neatly straddle synth samples as Williams’ pours sentiment into the line, “If it’s more than you feel you can take, then hold on.”.
The addition of cello, double bass, clarinet, and violin gives ‘Unfold’ an orchestral feel as Night House effortlessly blend each individual element into one coherent, ethereal piece of music. ‘Unfold’ offers a huge amount of depth, both lyrically and sonically; a notable offering ahead of their debut album release later this year.
Night House was initially a vehicle for Williams acoustic folk songwriting before mutating into a bigger band and bigger sound. With seven members, Night House developed their sound into something they could truly call their own and have gone on to perform at The Alternative Escape, The Isle of Wight and Y-Not as well as gaining support from the likes of Clash Magazine.
