Single Review: Moya – Come And Get It

‘Moya’, a London based singer/songwriter who has been easing her way through the music industry since releasing her critically acclaimed album, ‘Lost And Found’, on the sly last year has been taking the nation by storm this past summer, right under our noses!

The 22 year-old has spent her past year touring with the rock & pop London born legend himself, Rod Stewart – a great mix considering the two both exclaim their music inspirations came from  old-school Motown classics.

I was lucky enough to see Moya perform her latest single,’Come And Get It’, live at the M.E.N in Manchester when she was touring alongside Stewart. Moya walked on stage in  a stride of confidence with her stack of blonde hair and amazonian-like presence. She exuded so much charisma and magnetism from the outset, but nothing, and I mean nothing could have prepared awaiting fans for what was about to come out of this girls lungs. Moya opened with ‘Come And Get It’ and tore the house down, eager fans growing impatient for there long-time hero Rod Stewart to take the stage almost seemed to completely forget what they were waiting for, so locked in on this support act like she was some kind of goddess – a reception hard to achieve for any supporting act.

So, it’s fair to say that when I heard about the official release of Moya’s new single this month I was more than a little excited to hear the studio version it all it’s glory. Moya characterizes her sound as ”Piano-driven music that encompasses quite a-lot of different areas ”, but this self-examination by Moya is a modest one at the very least. Yes, in ‘Come And Get It’, you can hear that pure piano influenced sound that Moya describes but that is not the half of it. The tone of this track is a soulful, elegant and classic one which encloses a swift scent of 1950’s jazz and soulful groove with an energizing aroma of 21st century lively electronica, which comes across in the synth element to Moya’s style (maybe the reason Perez Hilton illustrated Moya as a ”Female Bruno Mars”)

With nothing to declare but the skin of her bones, Moya’s ‘this is me’ persona, which holds no gimmicks or outlandish psyche, is what is rightfully earning her the respect she deserves in the music business among many prestigious acts. It’s soulful, ear-entrancingly wistful tracks like ‘Come And Get It’ which more forwardly proclaim exactly why she is vastly earning her A-Lister ranking.
