Single Review: Kevin Pearce – ‘Plastic Man’ / ‘Born Slippy’

Having received acclaim from a number of esteemed publications such as The Independent, MOJO, Uncut and Q, as well as gaining airplay from the likes of BBC 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq and Stuart Maconie, and BBC Radio 2’s Dermot O’Leary, Essex artist Kevin Pearce has now released two new singles.

Propelled by funk-fuelled beats and Pearce’s deep, resonating vocals, ‘Plastic Man’ is inspired by the hideous misuse and general abuse of plastic and its environmental impact. Filled with catchy hooks and glitchy beats, it flows with a unique sweeping instrumentation and rich musicality as a captivating heartfelt emotion soars, giving an infectious groove to a deeply serious subject.

And now for something completely different… Pearce has gone and taken the bold step and covered Underworld’s ‘Born Slippy’, putting his own raw, emotion-strewn edge on the original club classic. With soaring atmospherics, luscious stripped-back harmonies and a twinkling allure, it gives a whole new take on the racing dance-floor anthem we’re all familiar with.

Two totally unique, and truly exquisite, offerings from this innovative artist.

‘Plastic Man’ and ‘Born Slippy’ are both out now via Dharma Records.
