Oxford four-piece Hollis Lomax have had a steady rise over the past 12 months. The alt.pop band have released their debut EP, Talk Too Loud, recorded in Damon Albarn‘s Studio 13, as well as a remix of their previous single ‘Climb’ – remixed by Tony Njoku, former winner of Green Man rising. Showing no signs of slowing down, Hollis Lomax have now unveiled their latest cut, Past Time.
Past Time charts the remnants of a past relationship, assessing throughout how life has since changed. A reflective, personal piece of music, Past Time illustrates a band who are marching to the beat of their own drum. A mixture of fragmented musicianship seamlessly incorporating jazz and pop, along with the narrated, cerebral outpourings of singer Will Rowland make for a compelling journey. The band cite the likes of Ought, Crumb, Talk Talk and Brian Eno as influences and this eclectic mix plays out in the music they create. As a result, Hollis Lomax have concocted a unique sound that may not be to everyone’s taste, but there is something endearingly quirky about the foursome that leaves you eager to hear more. This can only be a good thing.
Hollis Lomax also consist of Hugo Keays (Guitar) Will Ellis (Bass Guitar) and Rob Taylor (Drums). The band released their first single in 2019 picking up support from BBC Introducing Oxford and New York’s Come Here Floyd. Having played headline shows at The Cellar, Oxford and The Islington, London, Hollis Lomax will re-emerge from the lockdown with a support slot, alongside Pynch, at The Waiting Room, Stoke Newington in August.
