Single Review: Green Day – Revolution Radio

As they strut their stuff in the venue that made punk rock an accessible and worthy medication for the estranged, Berkeley powerhouse band Green Day relive a special time.

In the video for their fast-paced and politically drenched song Revolution Radio, they play their hearts out, celebrating and saluting a hallowed space.

The Californian giants did succumb to backlash when they signed to a major label. They were hounded and told never to come back to Gilman Street, as the punk purists scorned the band’s hard decision. But in 2017, things are pretty and punk is still biting, and Green Day have been welcomed back.

In the video, there are snapshots of Green Day’s younger days, when there was no glitz, but dirty punk rock. And it’s fitting that the director of the video and the band placed these pivotal and memorable snippets in to create a poignant and arresting experience. And Green Day may be a colossal act, but on this evidence, they showcase that they’re at one with their roots.
