Single Review: GARGALO – Out Of Sync

GARGALO is a project by London-based Spanish-Canadian artist Bruno G. Roth. The multi-instrumentalist started writing and recording during the lockdown, experimenting with sound and song structures that culminated in the completion of EP King of Dark Waters.

Out of Sync is the first single to be released from the record and exemplifies GARGALO’s shimmering indie-pop sound in just over three wistful minutes. Beginning with simple guitar notes creating a sense of melancholy, Bruno’s spoken word-like vocals frame the track beautifully, before drifting into choral harmonies inflected by the sweet sound of synths and a head bopping beat. Out of Sync is a reflective indie-pop song taking influence from the likes of The Postal Service, whilst maintaining its own unique qualities. Describing the song, Bruno elaborated: “It’s a bittersweet song when everything around you seems disconnected and feels like you’re missing a beat. It’s a journey of ascension regaining perspective to a better path to get that beat back once again.”

Formerly a member of an array of bands over the years, exposing himself to touring life and the festival circuit, Bruno began GARGALO as a means of escape during the pandemic. His eclectic taste in music, ranging from indie to rock and electro to pop, meant that he was able to produce a collection of songs that reflected his diverse musical interests.

Having played in front of 30,000 people while in previous bands, as well as appearances at the likes of MTV Winter, this is a new adventure as he embarks on the journey of being a solo, independent artist. If Out of Sync is anything to go by, we could be in for a real treat with further singles and videos planned before the release of the EP on 26th November.

Out of Sync is out on 8th October and is taken from King of Dark Waters EP, due for release on 26th November 2021.
