Single Review: Duke of Wolves – Teddy Boy

Duke of Wolves, the newest guitar-wielding 4-piece on the block, has released their new single Teddy Boy. The London based band, formed in January 2016 and consisting of Jim, Tom, Orlando and Sara, are currently unsigned but that may all change following their newest release. With a heavy sound that’s rock and roll through and through Duke of Wolves have been likened to Queens of the Stone Age and Rage Against the Machine.

Teddy Boy jumps right in at the deep end with an anthemic riff from the offset. Jim’s vocals are easy and almost blasé in their effortlessness. Switching between notes, Jim demonstrates his range while simultaneously remaining ultra-cool. The harmonies kick in adding another layer to the track and a touch of the feminine with Sara’s gentle vocal. The reverberating drum beat throughout is accompanied by equally fierce guitar riffs and the occasional flourish of a cymbal. The track reaches its peak and the guitars descend into a heavy rage as Jim’s vocals strain to screams. It’s a track which deserves to be turned up loud and I can imagine is electrifying on a live stage.

Teddy Boy follows four previous releases including Terry (The Serial Killer) with its equally killer electric guitar solo and the riff-heavy It’s Real. Duke of Wolves have had radio plays from BBC Introducing, Planet Rock and Amazing Radio as well as regional stations. The band has played at the Isle of Wight Festival and Standon Calling Festival and cites The Killers, Led Zeppelin and Wolfmother among their influences. Duke of Wolves are incredibly hands on with every aspect of the musical process with Jim editing their videos and Orlando designing their artwork so the band is one big creative powerhouse. I’m sure this is the just the beginning of an exciting musical journey for this wolf pack.
