Single Review: Desert Clouds –

Having had a few changes of line up since their initial formation back in 2008, London band Desert Clouds follow last year’s Time Distortions album with a brand new single.

Oozing an eerie majesty, ‘Under Tons’ is inspired by the idea of walking towards a destiny that appears to be going nowhere. As the dark grandeur of David Land’s Mark Lanegan-reminiscent vocals flow alongside whirring psychedelic hooks, the track gradually builds to an immense climax. As sweeping riffs thrash against pummelling beats, a haunting power blasts into your ears as a classic rock anthem is born. Of the track, the band explain: “it’s a nonsense journey unless you realise where you are really heading to…”.

Initially founded by David Land and Val Wallace, Desert Clouds have received acclaim for previous releases, 2015’s The Floating Oar and last year’s Time Distortions. And now, with the addition of Andrea Orabona and Julius ‘Little Eagle’ Caesar, they band continue their search for life’s meaning through the stirring, ‘desert rock’-inspired sounds of ‘Under Tons’.

‘Under Tons’ is out now via Jiffybag Records.
