Having made an impact earlier this year though the release of single ‘Under Tons’, London based alt.rockers Desert Clouds have gone one better with the unveiling of their brooding grunge-tinged single ‘Speed Of Light’.
Desert Clouds aren’t your usual modern rock band. Offering a no thrills approach, the four-piece allow their songwriting and philosophical lyrical content to take centre stage. Deep, dark and nihilistic, ‘Speed Of Light’ is the perfect showcase of Desert Clouds ability to create affecting, often bleak soundscapes enhanced further by the foreboding impactful vocals of David Land.
It is clear that the band take their inspirations from a multitude of genres ranging from 60’s psychedelic rock, and gloomy grunge era 90’s bands, to the earthy yet visceral guitar rock produced by the likes of Kyuss. Despite this, the London based four-piece are still able to maintain their own unique style while modernising these influences for a contemporary audience.
With the track ominously building throughout, ‘Speed Of Light’ offers a tense yet enjoyable listen that is more than the sum of it’s parts, and yet another impressive offering from a band who continue to evolve with each and every release.
