Australian alt-pop group Cub Sport have just released their new single I Feel Like I’m Changin’. The track is taken from their highly anticipated fourth album Like Nirvana which is slated for release on 24th July.
The latest offering taps into Cub Sport’s mellower, stripped back sound. I Feel Like I’m Changin’ is the third single taken from the upcoming album, following on from Confessions and Drive. It opens with a gentle beat and lead singer Tim Nelson’s soft, whispered vocal. There’s an almost angelic air to the track with the restrained harmonies and subtle electronic elements. Nelson explores his vocal range at the chorus where he lets some of the strength of his voice shine through. The second and third chorus combine Nelson’s vocal with that of keyboardist and vocalist Sam Netterfield, giving the track an added depth. The wide-ranging, almost whispered harmonies and the subtle beat give the track an overall mellow and airy feel and it leaves you curious to explore the rest of the album.
When speaking of their forthcoming album Like Nirvana Tim Nelson said, “I’m prepared to reveal everything in these songs.” Nelson came out as gay in 2017 and this became a catalyst for Cub Sport to explore themes of self-love and acceptance in their songs: “It’s liberating to be so open after spending most of my life hiding everything about who I am and what I’m feeling. It felt good to acknowledge my whole self on this album and to let out a lot of things that I had been holding on to.”
Cub Sport’s fan base continues to grow, having amassed over 100 million streams on Spotify and 1.2 million monthly listeners. Most recently the band toured Europe, including a sold-out show at London’s Scala.
