Manchester based four-piece Bad Love have offered their sincere summer jam with the release of synth-heavy alt.pop single A Place For Me.
Off the back of huge worldwide success for artists such as The 1975, the combination of 80s style synth soundscapes combined with a contemporary pop inflection has become a popular sound on both sides of the Atlantic. From the likes of LANY to Walk The Moon or Joan to Fickle Friends, dreamy electro-pop themes are accented by emotive lyrics and heartfelt melodies. Bad Love are a band who appear to be following a similar path.
Coining the phrase ‘sad boy pop’, Bad Love’s willingness to emote earnest lyrical content is laid bare. Frontman Andy Gannon presents a yearning introspective outpouring, wistful and broken, the kind that could lead you to see his poster donning teenage bedrooms all over the world. Opening with effected vocals and a simple beat, A Place For Me elevates itself above the crowd with upbeat samples, synth notes and a memorable hook. Gannon flourishes as he takes centre stage, sentimentally describing the difficulties we all experience in finding new love after heartbreak. Allied to a sparkling production, A Place For Me is the perfect bookend to an uncertain summer.
Formed in 2019 Bad Love are made up of Sam Fieldhouse, Tommy O’Neill and Ben Tansey. The band had began to gain support from music press at the back end of 2019, culminating in Bad Love supporting Paris Youth Foundation in February. Like the rest of the industry, lockdown ground the foursome to a halt before they remerged with A Place For Me and a promise of more singles due for release over the coming months. We will be keeping a close eye out for a band who are not only for the here and now, but who will continue to grow and develop their sound further with each release.
