Single Review: Arcane Roots – Landslide

Arcane Roots latest offering ‘Landslide’ is a little different from the band’s standard output. It’s the title track from the bands latest EP.

The track starts life as a slow-burning brood, a haunting simple guitar line reverberates around your head as the lyrics are crooned over the top. It congers up dramatic scenes in my head as if someone is standing a blustery cliff top. Their extremely long coat tails flapping in the wind.

The drums drop in and the track starts to build into the pre-chorus. The suspense is crafted well as we teeter over the sonic edge but Arcane Roots hold us there, in musical limbo, for an agonising fourteen or fifteen seconds. Finally, ‘Landslide’ kicks into high gear, distorted guitars crash in alongside hard-hitting drums as Groves bellows “What if are Gods are the same?”, allowing us to two-foot jump into the last chorus.

Everything is resolved as the track settles comfortably back into the haunting guitar of the intro.

The Landslide EP is out September 14th on Easy Life and will also feature three reworked tracks from Melancholic Hymns album, including the tracks:

  • Before Me (Over)
  • Matter (Revel
  • Landslide
  • Off The Floor (Roof)
