Valerie June is the humble musician that seems to be grasping the industry, and public, firmly within her hands.
After being unknown to the UK audiences this time last year, it’s interesting to see how fast her fan base continues to grow and the support that she has received along the way. Whether it be her début UK appearance at Bestival, appearing on Later With … Jools Holland or co-writing with Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys); June has earned her recognition.
But, last night, June offered a spectacle to the Scala crowd that will definitely not have gone unnoticed. Supporting American singer-songwriter Ryan Bingham, the Tennesse-born starlet offered a set full of captivating vocal prowess and quirky humour.
It’s hard to not adore listening or watching her, as she elegantly captures each emotion within the track whilst every note becomes as enticing as the last. But it’s her modesty and complimentary manner that made her ever-more enjoyable, as she was not only kind to her peers but the crowd themselves.
June may not be to everyone’s flavour, but with her mannerisms, professionalism and extraordinary hair; you can’t help to hope that she continues her rise to fame.
