Review: The First- Take Courage

‘Take Courage’- the fortcoming album from Cambridgeshire blend of Melodic Rock and Pop Punk, The First- is set for release on September 23rd, and we most definitely approve of its perfectly seasoned content…

Coming from a band who’s début album, ‘Swimming With Sharks’, poured them into the good books of Rock Sound magazine and even into the Scuzz and Kerrang!TV charts, this follow up album sparks an unsurprising quality.

The album opens wth ‘There’s No Place Like Home’; a song you can’t help but play at full blast. The depth and convicton of impressive guitar shredding forms the basis of the track and really sets the album up on a winner.

The sense of the album sings a Deaf Havana meets a more timid, classic Bon Jovi element and really hits some familiar chords across many genres of the rock corner in the industry. Tracks like ‘Start Again’ and ‘Dare I Say I Ruined Everything’ showcase a more vocally clean sound, with the added bonus of ‘Start Again’ taking flight on an upbeat sing-along chorus.

Stand-out tracks for me on the album are the slightly more mellow and smooth title track, ‘Take Courage’, and potential anthem ‘William’, featuring fiercely strong vocal harmonies from singer/songwriter Elisa Franceschi.

A band fueling on support and a growing fanbase, blending a beautiful reminiscent influence into the modern, fresh pop punk phenomenon- The First are well on their way.
