Review: Nitro Circus – The Movie 3D

Renowned for its MTV series, motorsport competitor Travis Pastrana and his friends take death to the air, land and water to perform death defying stunts with anything that has wheels or horsepower.

However it’s their turn to venture away from the weekly show, as they take their stunts to the big screen.

So, what better way to mark their launch than a Nitro Circus Live performance at The O2, London, to break a Guinness World Record for the most freestyle motorcross riders completing a “backflip” in synchronisation?

With 18 riders attempting the trick, it was declared successful after slow-motion video footage indicated that 16 of the riders were airborne at the same time. This footage was broadcasted live across the rest of the European premières.

In all honesty, I’ve never been one of those people that is fascinated by 3D. I don’t enjoy how uncomfortable the glasses are or, for most of the time, the fact you have to pay extra to witness a movie that barely breaks into the new dimension. Unfortunately, within a few moments of this film, it became clear that this was a spectacle that should only be viewed in 3D.

Whilst being entertained by a 5-minute montage of dirt in your face, bikes flying across the screen and a monster truck driving directly at you. Yes. you have just read that right. They were doing stunts in a truck.

It’s obvious that these types of films are not for all generations but, whether you’re an adrenaline junkie or just someone that likes watching people put their life at risk, you will enjoy this. It was anticipated that an hour and a half of tricks, stunts and general destruction would become tedious eventually, which in some manners it did, but with a new idea every few seconds; it was foolish to just look the other way or escape to the toilet for a few moments.

The movie has replicated what Jackass, co-incidentally Johnny Knoxville and Jeff Tremaine do make appearances throughout, achieved so well on their first film; the viewers gathered a relationship with each member of the group, as we heard more about their background, the role in the team and the unnecessary sympathy that you couldn’t help but shed on a few – in particular Streetbike Tommy.

Nitro Circus 3D offers a lot more than what should be expected, whether you’ve followed the team throughout the series or not; you can’t help but wish everyone of them come out safe on the other side.

They may be crazy, fearless and, some may say, dumb, but they deliver everything that you wish they could.
