Review: Empire Circus- Empire Circus (Album)

Following the release of their singles, ‘There Is A Light’ and ‘True Believer’, Dublin Indie/Pop group, Empire Circus are set to release the corresponding, self-titled album later this month.

Revolving around energy and upbeat melodies, this album was inevitably heading up a feel-good slope. Kickstarting on ‘Lights Out’, sharp guitar riffs ring together behind a blend of “ooh ooh” in the lead up to the forceful verse. The irresistable Pop itch in Empire Circus’ sound is perfectly encrypted in this track, leaving the chorus bouncing around your head for hours on the very first listen.

Currents’, a personal favourite of mine, begins on a beautifully mellow front with a mere synth rhythm beating away in the back. One of the more melodic tracks on the album, it comes as a real easy listen, equipped with flawless harmonies.

The single, ‘There Is A Light’, remains the absolute catch to Empire Circus’ sound. Prominent bass riffs take over the track, but forcing it to be a real sing-along anthem, as was most definitely at one of the live shows.

The album closes on a killer note- two fabulous tracks in successtion- ‘Sails Set For The Sky’ and ‘In Dreams’. Wrapping up the guitar-led Indie sound with hard-hitting “turn it up loud” type songs. The energetic consistency of this album considered; I’d love to see it dusted off with a real Empire Circus live perormance.
