Review: Caro Emerald – The Shocking Miss Emerald Acoustic EP

The Shocking Miss Emerald has shocked again with this spine tingling Acoustic EP… and it’s free!

Caro Emerald has taken Europe by storm over the last few years, and there’s no sign of that stopping any time soon. With her debut album ‘Deleted Scenes from the Cutting Room Floor’ reaching platinum in both her homeland The Netherlands, and here in the UK, and the release of her second album ‘The Shocking Miss Emerald’ entering at #1 in both Dutch and UK album charts, it’s no surprise that her current European tour, including 14 UK dates, is almost sold out at every venue.

As a “present” to her fans, Miss Emerald recorded a 6 part Acoustic EP of ‘The Shocking Miss Emerald’, and well…what a present it is.

Slimmed down to what is basically a guitar and double bass accompaniment, (very fitting for her jazz/pop style), this EP highlights all that is great about the original album. The opening track, ‘I Belong To You’, is hauntingly beautiful in its stripped back and slow-tempo state, the unveiling of Caro’s vocals revealing an even more smooth and enchanting aspect of her voice than can be found on the original album. The same can be said for the 3rd and 4th tracks, ‘Paris’ and ‘The Wonderful in You’, the acoustic form and prominent bass really pushing through the haunting nature of these three songs.

The Album’s second track, ‘Coming Back As A Man’, returns to the classy sassiness that has come to be expected from Emerald, and the remaining track ‘Completely’ provides us with both a fun and cheery escape that her style lends itself so well to. Finishing with a very fun and up-tempo version of her latest single ‘Liquid Lunch’, we are left feeling  completely musically satisfied.. not to mention not even having to pay a penny!

Miss Emerald is shockingly generous in offering this to her fans for free, a brilliant acoustic EP that makes you feel as if you could be seats away from the stage in a smoky New York Jazz club, taking in all the brilliance that is Miss Caro Emerald.

Luckily for us, Caro Emerald is coming back to the UK for another tour in March 2014! Snap up those tickets quick, and don’t forget to visit her website for this beautifully free Acoustic EP.
