R.I.P The IT Crowd 2006-2013 – Forever in our hearts

The final episode of the much loved Channel 4 sit-com The IT Crowd aired last week. With heavy hearts and tear-filled eyes we said goodbye to The IT crowd on a Friday night. Although it is now gone it will live on in the hearts of its fans.

The IT crowd started back in 2006, it was based around the IT department of the fictional Reynholm Industries. Starring Chris O’Dowd as Roy Trenneman, Richard Ayoade as Maurice Moss and Katherine Parkinson as Jen Barber the manager of the IT department. Matthew Berry regularly appeared as Reynholm Industries’ hapless owner and leader after inheriting the business from his father (Chris Morris) after his death in series 2. Noel Fielding finishes off the main cast as Richmond, the goth who used to be Reynholm’s senior right hand man before discovering Cradle of Filth.

The final episode of the show, entitled “The Internet Is Coming” is everything fans would have wanted. Inside jokes from the history of the show, fantastic throwbacks to great moments from the past and one last ludicrous situation for the IT department to find themselves in. Even one or two breaches of the 4th wall, which is always enjoyable in TV shows, and, after recovering from scurvy, a much loved character makes a brief but funny comeback.

“The Internet Is Coming” was a superb and very satisfying way to end a show that I’ve personally loved for the last seven years. With hilarious throwbacks to previous episodes and a very good plot to finish it all off. Well done Channel 4. Well done.
