Album Review: Natives – Indoor War

British Pop Rockers Natives have released their new album ‘Indoor War’. The eleven tack album has been released via Transmission Recordings and was revealed to the world on March 17th…

The first track on the album is ‘War Inside My Head‘. An album needs a  strong opener, and that’s exactly what this song is. It’s a very feel good track with awesome vocals and an ultimate great start to the album.

Second up is ‘This Island’. This song was previously released on ‘This Island’ EP. This track was the first ever track released by Natives under their new name, having previously been known as Not Advised.  The feel good vibe continues with strong cadences coming predominantly from the drums.

‘Can’t Say No’ is a really enjoyable song and I just “Can’t Say No” to the “twangy” guitar at the beginning. (No more bad jokes, I promise). The song had my head bobbing along the whole way through. It’s catchy music and that’s always a good sign, especially as it left me wanting to hear more with each song.

I was loving the guitar on ‘Going In Alone‘, even more so with the way it mixed with the drum pattern. It’s little bit different from the first three tracks on the album, but if all tracks were the same, it would be bland and generic so a bit of a change up is welcome here.

Let go‘ is probably one of my favourite songs on the album. Like a lot of the music on the album it is very catchy and the chorus is once again quite powerful. This is followed by the track ‘L.O.V.E‘. This is what I term on Pop Rock albums, the compulsory slower song. You are almost garunteed to find a song of this feeling on albums like this. Natives have managed to come up with a slower song that is still enjoyable. It maintained a good vibe and memorable vocal phrases.

Big plans‘ Is a very energetic song. A strong start with carried energy through the entire song, mainly channelled on the drums and vocals.

I’m not ashamed to admit that I had a little dance in my chair to ‘The Horizon‘. The guitar riff at the end of the chorus is very catchy. The next song, ‘Ghost‘ seems to blend in with the rest of the album. The closing song on an album can either be a hit or miss. In this case ‘For Everything‘ was definitely a hit.

If I was to describe ‘Indoor War’, it would be one of those albums that I can see myself driving around to or just relaxing but also moving around to at a gig. It’s definitely a step up for Natives. This album is a strong message from British Pop Rock and with the right coverage I can see the band becoming as big as establish british bands such as You Me At Six.
