Fresh off a packed show at the Camden Barfly, Mutant Vinyl are back for one last show at The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts.
It’s 7:30 on a Friday and the Paul McCartney Auditorium is packed to the brim with fans of Mutant Vinyl. This is the alter ego of Liverpool based songwriter and musician Edwin Pope, who draws on aspects of jazz, dub, trip-hop and funk to create his own unique, intoxicating blend, via his black saxophone. Edwin has supported the likes of Rudimental, The Noisettes, Rita Ora, Kids In Glass Houses, Sway, Mystery Jets, Electric Six, Wolf Alice, Beverley Knight, & Scouting For Girls during the past two years.
Ed, supported by Laura Williams on the drums, Jack Hymers on keys, Dan Ferguson on bass and Jogier Maeland on guitar really stepped up his game this time round. The musicality was top notch and the changes in the feels of the songs were awesome.
Over the course of the night, he played bass, saxophone, guitar and sang. The versatility this man has with his musical abilities is unrivaled by anyone I’ve seen recently. On top of this their commanding stage presence really captivated the audience and when Keith Mullin, guitarist from The Farm joined them onstage, it stepped up to another level. I would urge you all to keep an eye out for Mutant Vinyl at any show near you soon. For Liverpool folk that will be easier as they are playing at the Grand National and also at Sound City.
