This May at House Of Savages

Did you hear? There’s this major vote in a couple days, it’s called a General Election. No, you didn’t hear? Well that’s ok, you must have been distracted by the imminent arrival of House Of Savages 8th monthly gig at The George Tavern.

Anyway, on May 13th we have this amazing line-up to make celebrating/commiserating/forgetting the events of the previous Thursday that much better.

All These Years – https://alltheseyearsuk.bandcamp.com/

Pop-Punkers ATY kick us off this month. Having released their debut EP Skyline only days ago Adam, Michael, Charlie and Ryan’s new single (also called Skyline) definitely represents a step forward in songwriting prowess and has already been featured on Aaron Philips Rock Show on Amazing Radio (as was previous single Abandon Ship, which is also on the new EP). Adam Browning’s vocals, especially on the single remind me of Roger Lima’s best stuff for Less Than Jake (minus the horn section). But moving away from Ska (as it’s not the best comparison) to give you more of an idea of what to expect; Taking Back Sunday, New Found Glory and/or Yellowcard would be damn proud of any of the tracks found on Skyline. The guys’ up-beat sun-soaked pop-punk will be sure to get everyone in the mood for a party.

Fiends – https://weareallfiends.bandcamp.com/

Fiends are a five-piece post-hardcore outfit who take influences from a range of musical styles, picking out Heavy Rock and Hip Hop they bring together something that I would compare to Bring Me The Horizon and Funeral For A Friend. Latest track War Paint, produced by Chris Coulter (Arcane Roots), has a pressing weight of urgency right from the opening guitar riff which gives solemnness and gravitas to Luke Goddard’s lyrics. You can clearly tell that this is a band who is trying to send a message with their music. With some excellent intricate guitar work on both songs now available on their Soundcloud we are very much looking to a live performance that has been label as “explosive”!

Listen Out For – Ghosts

Witchingseason – https://soundcloud.com/witchingseason

“Meaty Riffs” is how Bring The Noise UK described Witchingseason’s music. Need I say more? Tom, James and Wayne give us music that makes you want to dance and smash inanimate objects all at the same time. “Can you hear the Spiders calling?” Tom cries on Spiders, demonstrating his compelling and energetic style, the drums steady and pounding holding together the power of the rest of the band. The Healer, the band’s latest offering received wide-spread coverage both from radio and online sources resoundingly coming back with huge praise. Heavy Rock, Grunge and Alt.Rock all come together with the closest comparisons to their sound in my opinion being around the Seether/Alter Bridge area.

Brightlight City – https://soundcloud.com/brightlightcity

We end this month’s show with headliners Brightlight City. Brothers Jamie and Justin along with Jono, Dan and Ben give us Pop-Punk with a hell of an ability to write an awesome hook, meaning their songs will be bouncing around your head for hours after. Citing Hundred Reasons and Biffy Clyro as bands that brought them together and clearly have an influence on their music, they more unexpectedly also list Foals, but you can certainly hear a style crossover from the Oxford-band on the fast intertwining of the guitar lines, especially on songs like Sharpen Your Teeth. Having received support from XFM, 6 Music and Amazing Radio in the past the guys have had some great recognition of their music and new single The Finish Line is sure to be a big hit with the HoS crowd. They are just about to release new EP Adventures but have already sold out the advance copies they made available at their local Banquet Records in Kingston, demonstrating the buzz there is around them at the moment. If you didn’t grab a copy then don’t worry, digital copies will be up on the 11th giving you two full days to learn the lyrics before their headline set. So no excuses not to sing along OK?

Listen Out For – The Charm Offensive

So make sure you stop by  The George Tavern on the 13th of May (before you head off to The Great Escape!) to see these guys in action.
