Many will say it was a long time coming, but only now, 9 months after frontman, Ian Watkins was charged with 24 sex offences, the remaining members of Welsh band Lostprophets have inevitably called it a day as far as the band is concerned…
Over the 15 years of Lostprophet’s career, they played massive UK festivals, became renowned for their live performance, released some smashing albums, and were all-in-all worshipped by many many people.
Following the charges made to Watkins almost a year ago, which stretch to extreme allegations of the rape of a one year old child along with 23 other major offences, the remaining members- Jamie Oliver, Lee Gaze, Stuart Richardson, Mike Lewis and Luke Johnson- were left with an unimaginable shock and the bane of one massive decision.
Earlier today, the guys confirmed, via Twitter and Facebook, an issue which was doing laps in fan’s heads for quite some time…
“To our fans:
After nearly a year of coming to terms with our heartache, we finally feel ready to announce publicly what we have thought privately for some time. We can no longer continue making or performing music as Lostprophets. Your love and support over the past 15 years has been tremendous, and we’ll be forever grateful for all you’ve given us. As we look forward to the next phase of our lives, we can only hope to be surrounded by people as devoted and inspiring as you guys have been.
Jamie, Lee, Luke, Mike, and Stu”
Ian Watkins is currently waiting to stand trial over the offences and was recently placed on suicide watch five times an hour in prison.
A truly heartbreaking and disturbing end to what were a heroic band for a lot of people.
