London Guide for Music Lovers

London is one of the primary tourist attractions for any international traveller. This is exactly the kind of city where the old is intertwined with the new; where century-old traditions go hand in hand with the latest technological innovations; and, of course, it is also home to many pop and rock bands that have left a bold trace in the music history. In other words, music lovers will have plenty of spots to visit in London. And here are some of the top ones — make sure you add them to your traveller’s checklist.

CCO

Clapham Grand London

Probably, one of the first places to check out if you love rock music. Over the course of its history, Clapham Grand has held shows of such world-famous bands like Muse, Madness, Public Enemy, and many others. The fact that the venue is located in a historical and architectural landmark (the building traces back to 1900) makes live show experiences even more exciting!

TOBL

The Old Blue Last

This amazing venue is a true find not only for music lovers but also for literature and history buffs. After all, it is located in one of the oldest buildings in London. Back in 1576, the very same site has been called simply The Theatre — and it’s exactly where the first Shakespeare’s plays have been acted out. The long history explains the relatively small size, though — the Old Blue Last can accommodate only a hundred guests at a time. But, the more exclusive, the better  — right? Plus, you can always compare ticket prices at local ticket-selling sites – sometimes, even the classiest events have huge discounts, so even a very exclusive show does not necessarily have to burden your pocket.

TO2

The O2

Who hasn’t heard of the famous O2 network? Even though the company has plenty of concert halls around the whole Britain, the true magic happens in London. Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Queen, the Prince — those are some of the great showmen you could have seen on the O2 stage were you born a little earlier. Today, all of the mainstream pop musicians hold their shows in the London O2, which makes it one of the primary attractions for tourists.

T!C

The 100 Club

Another amazing venue that has a historical meaning to any rock music fan. The 100 Club is where the Clash and Sex Pistols started out, so if the Pistol’s version of the national anthem has been stuck in your head ever since your plane landed, The 100 Club is a must-see spot for you!

TF

The Forge

If you are more into something southern and smoking hot, you should definitely come by The Forge. Even though the facility opened in 2009, it has already gained a very impressive reputation among Latino music fans. But beware! Even though the primary focus on the venue is on the Latino music, you might occasionally see an electric or even a classic concert. So, double-check the repertoire before you go.

TPF

The Pickle Factory

If you’re into electronic after all, the Pickle Factory is the perfect spot for you. This site is a hub of London night life, so if you would like to spend the night in a club where the craziest things happen, the Factory is ready to welcome you any time of day and night. Some of the best local and international DJs, like Biro, Minh, and Vera regularly host their shows at The Pickle Factory.

ELW

London Electrowerkz

One more club any techno and electro fan will enjoy. With the very impressive history (the building itself traces back to the late 19th century), the site is both a music and an architectural landmark. If you ever come by London Electrowerkz, try to remember that the building was used as a horse stable, a metal shop (hence the name), and only after — as an experiment underground club. This will surely make your transcendental experience even more memorable.

LBH

London Barbican Hall

Finally, if you are looking for a classy night out, London Barbican Hall never ceases to fascinate its visitors with grasp-taking symphonic orchestras. If you love the good old classics, this is the spot for you. After all, the entertainment centre is the home to London Orchestra, and you cannot possibly miss their show is you are ever in London! More than that, the Hall regularly hosts art exhibitions, so the art lovers will also have a thing or two to learn in the Barbican Hall.
