Lizzie and the Yes Men – Deserts

Lizzie Holdford and her band the Yes Me have their latest single ‘Deserts’ out for the world to hear, and the single to purchase on December the 10th.

The band produce a 50s-60s style rock ‘n’ roll sound with a Pop twist glossed over. There are some mellow 60s sounding rotary guitar tones accompanying the strutting Rockabilly-esque bass in the start of ‘Deserts’.

The nonchalantly sung vocals of Lizzie are backed with more expressive vocals by one of the Yes Men. The lines are simple, and effective; catchy and easy to get stuck in the head. The verse and chorus flow is written tantalisingly; the transition between the verse and chorus is almost hidden with by how the words meander right into the chorus. As well one thing I noticed (with the smart thought out form) is the first time chorus is only a short chorus. I wanted more of this chorus. Lizzie and the Yes Men did not let me down, with the second chorus giving you much more than just the sniff of some nice catchy melodies, and Motown styled backbeat drumming. Very smart guys.

Deserts’ is a quality song to keep your ears out listening for and to purchase on the 10th; definitely overall a band to look out for in the not too distant future I am sure. Their styles throughout their back catalogue have so many different influences all mixed together to no doubt give the retro lovers someone to highlight, yet at the same time the indie-pop people to fall in love with.
