Live Review: Walking On Cars – INEC, Killarney – 20/12/14

Can We Sing Hallelujah One More Time?

Dingle natives, Walking On Cars blew away a packed INEC, Killarney, for what was to be their homecoming show. With bus loads of people coming from all over the Munster province, it was set to be a full house.

The band have come a long way in the last few years, looking one of the strongest Irish acts on the scene at the moment. They are set for an incredibly successful 2015 as they look towards the release of their début album.

Support on the night came in the form of Ireland’s favourite brothers who played a packed set for the good part of 50 minutes. Unlike other gigs where the support act is often ignored or just sets the soundtrack to fumbling with tickets and buying the first round of drinks, Hudson Taylor captured the audience’s full attention as if they were the headline act. Preparing to release their debut album ‘Singing For Strangers’ they played a lot of well-known classics that got the crowd singing and dancing along and put everyone in the perfect mood for Walking On Cars.

When it was time for Walking On Cars to brace the stage that has seen The Script, Kodaline and Hozier captivate crowds,  they were highly anticipated and warmly welcomed. The 5 piece were accompanied by violinists who enhanced their set widely. Sporting their trademark Kerry accent it is clear to see how strong this band’s connections to its roots are, playing a lengthy almost 1 and a half hour set in full delight. As the night was drawing to a close they played a very powerful and heartfelt version of their song ‘Two Stones’. To the audience’s surprise they invited Harry and Alfie back on stage to help them out with ‘Catch Me If You Can’ bringing about the addition of wonderful harmonies.

Being the lead up to Christmas Walking On Cars finished their set with a soulful rendition of Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson’s ‘Winter Song’ as confetti mimicking snow fell softly from the ceiling of the INEC.

We’ve got our eye on Walking On Cars for 2015.
