Live Review: FKA Twigs – Brighton Dome – 02/10/14

Wednesday, October 2nd, bustling Brighton had a whispering mist of anticipation as local shop-owners and venue staff seemed elated for FKA Twigs’ arrival.

Set to embark on her biggest tour to date, Mercury Prize nominee FKA Twigs opened her UK dates at The Dome. While Tahliah Debrett Barnett uses a stage name, after seeing her transform her LP1 artistry to stage FKA (Formerly Known As) abbreviation should really stand for Fascinating Krazy Ass.

Lights off, dry smoke, FKA Twigs graced the stage in an army print two piece. Taking us from furnace to freezer, The Dome’s mist of haunting embodied the crowd as FKA Twigs channeled her wasps and whispers, echoes and oohs.

The fourteen tracks chosen were taken across her three years of releases, ‘EP1’ (2012) , ‘EP2’ (2013) and her mesmerizing debut album ‘LP1’ (2014).

Highlights were of course the predictable encore tracks ‘Water Me‘ and ‘Two Weeks‘. Each song had its own curls or swirls drawing you in a little bit closer to the desirable alternative world of FKA Twigs. Her bendiness and random high pitched nuances had you in a nail-bitingly trance without a clue how.
