Single Review: Linkin Park – Guilty All The Same

Having been announced as Saturday Headliners for this year’s Download Festival, 6 piece rockers, Linkin Park’s name was the talk of their genre.

Only last week, the guys released their new song ‘Guilty All The Same’ featuring Rakim, and as much as new music from the band is exciting, I cant help but feel let down by the track. After the last album they released, ‘Recharged’, I was hoping for the original Linkin Park to come back. For those who haven’t listened to ‘Recharged’, it is pretty much a dance remix album of ‘Living Things’. I was hoping for more songs similar to those on ‘Hybrid Theory’ or ‘Meteora’. What we got instead was an intro over a minute long and then when the song actually drops I can’t help but feel that the cadences in the song lack a punch, and I’m not talking about the actual notation but the parts of the song where If I listened to older Linkin Park, I’d be able to lose it. I just don’t feel it in this song.

Dont get me wrong, I’m not saying the song sucks, it doesn’t. It’s just not what I’ve grown up to expect from these guys. Nostalgia may well hold a place in my opinion of this, but the song essentially falls short of Linkin Park’s forte. If you feel the same then listen to a band called Dangerkids.

The song itself is still a good song, just not what Linkin Park are fully capable of. Im hoping that the new album ‘The Hunting Party’ coming later this year will prove me wrong and show me that Linkin Park still have what has made so many fall in love with them.
