Launchbox: Chisel Beeches

Whenever I’m listening to an act for the first time the first thing I try and do is compare them to other acts. Not only to try and categorise them in my head – to assess if I’ll love them, hate them, pass on the whole discography etc – but to see if what level of originality we’re dealing with.

With Chisel Beeches I think I’ve found a perfect USA meets UK alt. rock act bringing together the best elements of a range of cult bands from both sides of the pond of the last 15 years.

Listening to their latest Soundcloud upload “You Are Your Friends”, I can easily pick out similarities to The Mars Volta, Saves The Day with hints of Hundred Reasons and a very British indie-rock inspired singing. This concoction of riffs, textured productions and cut through vocal makes for a great new breed of British rock band; one that has the potential to spread their wings far and wide in their musical career. As you listen through to “Take You Home” there are some 00’s fuelled post-hardcore moments seamlessly blended with punk pop. Pierce The Veil through Bring Me The Horizon fans will hear something in this song that aligns them with some of the most potent cut through rock bands of modern era.

These four young Surrey musicians are still enjoying their time being a band, answering House Of Savages silly ‘get to know’ questions with pride and larking around in their profile pictures. Building quite the reputation as a live act I look forward to those future uploads on Soundcloud and adding them to my playlist ahead of the crowd.
