The Milk, a four-piece from Essex whose music crosses the boundaries of Funk, Soul, Punk and Hip-Hop who began on their musical journey in 2008. The band, from Chelmsford, Essex, have had a challenging time waiting to get signed. It wasn’t until 2010 that they received British radio airtime, which was a number of tracks from their self entitled EP, which was picked up by XFM. However they released their debut album in early 2012 entitled “Tales from the Thames Delta”.
The album’s downtrodden lyrics, are performed with such passion and prove more than enough to to bring a crowd to its feet. I had the privilege of watching them during their UK tour at the O2 Academy in Liverpool. A gig that was as intimate as you would expect for a band like The Milk. The 2 hour set featured all the songs from their album plus covers of The Libertines and The Vaccines, both of which were massive crowd pleasures.
Here is what The Guardian is saying about them: “White boys struggling to convey the passion and soul of 60s r’n’b? The Milk do a good job of challenging the stereotype”.
A band who currently are no strangers to regular listeners of BBC Radio 6 are predicted to do big things in 2013 and with an album filled with soul and passion I expect them to succeed and maybe even break into the UK charts with ‘All I Wanted Was Danger’.
