US singer songwriter Jack Vandervelde recently released his addictive new single Trouble.
Trouble is Vandervelde’s most recent single, released ahead of his forthcoming EP this summer. The isolated acoustic guitars coupled with Vandervelde’s honey-smooth vocals marry together perfectly. The uptempo vibe and catchy chorus is a dangerously addictive combo. Similarities can be drawn between Vandervelde and Ed Sheeran and James Arthur with the catchy hooks and confident, fast-paced singing style. The bubbly bass and slick production make this radio-friendly track perfect for summer playlists.
The 22 year old Massachusetts native has been playing music his whole life but it was when he was in his junior year in high school, and a night at an Ed Sheeran concert, that Vandervelde realised it was his passion and that a career in music was what he wanted to pursue. “I was visiting film schools in LA because I thought I wanted to be a director, actor or writer. I had a night off so my parents got my sister and I tickets to see Ed Sheeran. I didn’t know much about him going into the concert but by the third song it was clear to me that this is what I wanted to do with my life.” A stellar career like Ed’s is one that many young artists dream of emulating but Vandervelde is well on his way to making that dream a reality.
On Easter Monday Vandervelde joined a star-filled line up to provide musical entertainment on the South Lawn of the White House for the 139th Annual Easter Egg Roll, and experience he dubbed “an honour and an incredible opportunity.” He is currently travelling up and down the American West Coast supporting indie band Plain White T’s on their High School Nation Tour. This incredible opportunity isn’t lost on Vandervelde and speaking on day three of the tour he said “I’m loving it. Everyone is so nice and so far the crowds have been great. I have been dreaming about this for a while so it’s really cool that it’s coming together.” Supporting a band as big as the Plain White T’s and hearing iconic Hey There Delilah each night will be a truly unforgettable experience.
Midway through the Plain White T’s tour, Vandervelde will be jetting off across the pond to support another household name: Aston Merrygold of JLS fame. Vandervelde will be opening for the star as he plays in Manchester, Birmingham and London on 3rd, 4th and 5th May. This is another experience that the young singer is highly anticipating adding “Aston is a high energy performer and an incredibly talented guy. It should be a great show and I am very much looking forward to playing to an English crowd.”
Speaking of song writing inspiration, the rising star draws upon “stories that stand out or real life experiences. I like to be very descriptive and specific when I write. It’s fun to write about things that everyone can relate to but also we’re part of a very specific time in my life.”
Looking to the future, Vandervelde has his sights set high and is determined to ride the wave of success from his hard work. When quizzed on where he’d like to be musically a year from now he said “I would like to have my EP out and be on the road with a great fan base. I have been releasing singles recently but I am going to get a body of work out, hopefully by the end of the summer. After this tour, I’ll be heading back to London to make that happen!” He cites Ed Sheeran, Green Day, Taylor Swift, The Backstreet Boys and John Mayer as his biggest musical inspirations and here’s hoping Jack Vandervelde is on his way to emulate their success.
