Galaksi, real name Dayne Haviland, is a South-Arican born producer who has been making electronic music since the age of 14. Granted, these tracks weren’t his best work, but the whole experience has been an amazing learning curve that has kept him to keep going and better his ability day by day. I caught up with him to discuss how he began, where he’s been and where he’s going.
So Galaksi, how did you get started in electronic music?
Basically, I listened to a lot of electronic music, and always wondered how it was made. Some internet searches later led me onto a demo version of some software called FL Studio, which is an all purpose DAW, and then it all went from there!
Whats the main influences behind your music production?
Keane and Chumbawamba.
What would you say has been your best achievement so far?
In terms of stuff I’ve ‘released’ already, I feel that the ‘Youtube Mashup 2012’ track I did was a real step forward in terms of my production style, and taught me an awful lot during the process. Also, the remix I did of ‘Fall Down’ for ‘Electric Joy Ride’ led me to meet a lot of great new people with a passion for music, such as PrimeDub and Night Focus Management, and some of their affiliated artists.

What do you plan on doing musically in 2013?
2013 is gonna be a busy year! In terms of releases, I have a track titled ‘Dynamite Moon Zombies’ that I have collaborated with Electric Joy Ride on, a remix fof ‘MSD – Quiet Riot’, and an original track, ‘Galaktik Bebop’ with vocalist Vic Taylor all coming out in January. I have a collab with a VERY talented producer called Markus Cole coming out later in the year, as well as another collab with Electric Joy Ride, this time featuring the vocals of Brenton Mattheus. I’m doing some soundtrack type stuff for some film makers, and just making more music as always!
