With Valentine’s day just next month a lot of women have set their hearts to seeing fifty shades of grey. The film is sure to sell out as it has already outpaced Sex and the City 2 in online ticket sales. Movie theaters all around are scrambling to add extra showtimes to keep up with demand. It is already the fastest selling movie on Fandango and that’s before the film is even released.
The book fifty shades of grey by E.L.James was published in 20th June 2011 a erotic romance with raunchy sex scenes selling over 100 million copies. It starts with our first character Anastasia Steele a 21 year old college senior attending Washington state university with her best friend Kate, who writes for the student newspaper. When Kate is taken ill she asks Ana to take her place doing a interview with 27 year old Christian grey a successful and wealthy entrepreneur.
Ana is instantly attracted to him but also finds him intimidating, she leaves the interview believing it went badly and tries to console herself that they will probably not meet again. But both of them end up meeting each other at every turn and it ends with Ana agreeing to Christians terms of a relationship. The story in itself is split between Ana’s need for a romantic relationship and Christian being consumed by the need to control everything.
Overall the cast and crew seem pretty fresh and none of the actors/actresses stick out like a sore thumb. The Director Sam Taylor-Johnson had a tall order in directing this highly anticipated film release. With Jamie Johnson as Christian Grey his first lead in a big budget movie and Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele. In short it will be hard for this film to live up to the expectations of 100 million readers of the book, but the tickets are already selling enough to continue the series.
