Festival Season Style: Hints and Tips!

It’s that time of year where exam season is starting, but summer is just around the corner! And what’s getting me excited this year are the festivals!

So we all plan to go see our favourite band, artist, DJ, whoever! Who can make us sing, dance, and probably get outlandishly drunk with your best friends. And instead of revising, you find yourself scoping out the high street on what outfit you’re going to sport at Leeds or V Fest, or wherever! Photographers are all over the grounds, so you don’t want to get a snapshot looking totally trashy! We’ve all had that three-day old hair, feeling like you just want a nice hot bath, but really, who cares?!

I’m here to give my advice on what to wear this summer at whatever festival you attend. How to accessorise, hide that ‘bad hair day’, and what key things you need in your handbag!

First things first, what to wear? The key trends this spring/summer revolve around statement graphic prints, sweet pastel colours, bright neon bursts, and fresh white ensembles. Other trends which are featured in this month’s edition of Elle include: short and sweet outfits, choose ‘berrylicious’ colours, work that denim shirt, and not  to be shy of wearing ‘sunny delight’ yellow!

When looking at what celebs were wearing at Coachella 2013: there are variations of white pieces matched with denim, with other celebs more daring dressed in neon.

When it comes to buying your festival wear, there are chances you’re probably going to spill drink over yourself at some point, probably drop food on you, maybe even trip and rip something! So it makes you wonder how much to spend, when you want to look as glam as possible.  High street retailers even create collections now dedicated to the festival season, so browsing online or going in store is totally worth it to see what’s hot, and well, what’s not…

For inspiration check out the header pic that shows cute combo’s snapped by ASOS.

Other places to look are Topshop for their cute crops and bursts of colour, River Island for easy-wear smock dresses and pretty playsuits, and Boohoo for their stylish and very affordable festival collection! These are only a few  shops I recommend, but there’s nothing stopping you from hitting the likes of  H&M, New Look and even Zara to create your own summer ensemble!

What you wear isn’t everything though. You could wear the simplest number, and glam it up with neon nails, statement sunnies, flamboyant hats, or my current obsession: bright lipsticks!

Here are some key pieces I found:

(Lipsticks from Topshop, Nail Varnish from Barry M, Sunglasses from Urban Outfitters)

And when trying to hide that three-day old hair, there are options like scraping your hair back into a high pony, braiding it so it’s out of your face, or even just wrapping it up into a bun. Remember though, to hide those greasy locks, wear a headband or glitzy clip to divert the attention away! (Worse case scenario you could always just wear a hat).

Finally, when you’re walking all day and all night, you don’t really want to have millions of things in your clutch. It’s probably worth asking your parents for an old school Nokia, instead of potentially losing your brand new iPhone! However, here are my top 5 things to carry:

  1. Purse – of course…
  2. Water – staying hydrated is key when you’re basking in the sun (hopefully) all day.
  3. Sunnies – regardless of the weather, sunglasses are an essential.
  4. Tissues/Cleansing wipes – festivals aren’t the most hygienic of places… remember to always wash your hands!
  5. Chapstick & Lipstick – the only make up pieces worth keeping on you to top up.

I hope this post has inspired you and got you excited for whatever festivals you attend! Not long left till exams are over, assignments are handed in, and then you can relax with a Pimms in one hand, a mag in another! And of course, shop and prepare for the festival season ahead…
