Everton secure Koné deal

Everton have secured their first signing of the summer after finalising a deal with Championship club, Wigan Athletic for an undisclosed fee.

The 29-year-old Ivorian striker has been touted as a potential transfer target for the Toffees since Roberto Martinez was announced as David Moyes’ replacement last month.

The striker impressed somewhat last season as he amassed a total of 13 goals in all competitions for the relegated side even though he was often deployed as a lone striker and lacked a decent standard of service from his teammates for a lot of the season.

At Everton this is sure to change as they have a whole host of top internationals in their side and Koné could well prove to be the missing piece from the Everton Champions League puzzle as one thing they’ve lacked over the years since Tim Cahill and Yakubu were in their prime is a consistent goal threat.

The ex-Levante frontman has signed a three-year-deal and will join up with his new teammates towards the end of the month.
