EP Review: 11 ‘Why Choose Me’

Having gained recognition for last years single Best Of Me, up and coming duo 11 have released their debut EP Why Choose Me.

Combining elements of electro, pop, indie, R&B and hip hop, Why Choose Me is an EP brimming with ideas produced by a band who blend an array of eclectic influences into a five track record.

Opening with the slow burning ‘Find A Way’, 11 showcase their ability to create hook-filled choruses enhanced further by stellar production values, and heart fluttering beats and samples. ‘Best Of Me’, the most commercial track on the EP, takes cues from artists such The 1975 as James Lamb’s soulful, silky vocals take centre stage. Title track ‘Why Choose Me’, a standout on the record, highlights 11’s skilful songwriting ability, producing a grimy, urban pop gem the likes of Aquilo and Sampha would be proud of. ‘Face’ ripples with hip hop inspired vocal segments merged with a soaring, highly memorable chorus, before the EP closes with the introspective pop ballad ‘Will It Ever Be Enough’.

On Why Choose Me 11 have commendably created a diverse collection of songs; a collection of songs showcasing a multi-talented pair of songwriters and performers who are definite ‘one’s to watch’. Tracks such as ‘Best Of Me’ could be deemed derivative by some, but there is enough meat on the bones of each track, undulating from song to song, to mark 11 out as a band who will continue to develop and hone their obvious skills with every release.

Why Choose Me is out now.
